The gem-set blue ombre is bought by collectors who want color and depth in a dial without a stone dial's unpredictability. Unlike opal, aventurine or mother-of-pearl, an ombre finish is applied rather than cut, so every example matches and the buyer knows what they are getting before they see the specific watch. Against a platinum case the blue reads cooler than it would in a gold one, and the diamond markers pick up the case metal rather than contrasting against it, so the watch resolves as a single cool object with color at its center.
