As a Greek silversmith (who subsequently changed his surname to look more Italian), Sotirio Boulgaris founded the Rome-based company in 1884. The Italian brand is well-known for its jewelry as well as for its perfumes, accessories and, most importantly, timepieces.

'Bvlgari' isn't simply a play on words; there's a fascinating narrative behind the name's stylization.

A 'V' was used instead of 'U' when the firm designed a brass emblem for its main shop on the prestigious Via Condotti in Rome in 1934 as a nod to Roman numerals.

Since then, the name has stayed the same.

Despite the fact that Bulgari is best known for its jewelry, the company has long been regarded as a prominent participant in the fine watchmaking industry.

Instead of focusing on flashy marketing and flashy products, Bulgari has invested in its horological prowess by acquiring well-known watch brands like Daniel Roth and Gérald Genta, the eponymous brand of an artist who designed iconic watches like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus.
