The Chronomètre Bleu Byblos, a limited edition of ninety-nine pieces made in 2014 for the opening of F.P. Journe's tenth boutique, in Beirut. This example carries Western Arabic numerals on the Mediterranean blue hour circle; seventy-nine of the ninety-nine were made that way and twenty with Eastern Arabic numerals. The tantalum case measures 39 mm and stands 8.3 mm deep, on a leather strap. The dial is cut out, revealing the guilloché beneath, and the hands are ivory-coloured steel.

The Chronomètre Bleu is the F.P. Journe reference made only in tantalum, a dense blue-grey metal used for almost no other watch case. The Byblos is its limited edition of ninety-nine pieces, released in 2014 to mark the opening of the tenth F.P. Journe boutique, in Beirut, and named after the Phoenician port city on the Lebanese coast.

The case is tantalum, measuring 39 mm across and standing 8.3 mm deep, on a leather strap. Where the standard Chronomètre Bleu carries a solid blue dial, the Byblos dial is cut out, so the guilloché beneath shows through, with a Mediterranean blue hour circle set into it. The hands are ivory-coloured steel rather than the blued steel F.P. Journe uses elsewhere, which keeps them legible against a blue ground. The brand's mark at 12 o'clock has its J replaced by the Phoenician character for the hand.

The watch shows hours, minutes, small seconds and a power reserve indication, and is manually wound.

The ninety-nine pieces were split by numeral system. Seventy-nine carry Western Arabic numerals, the figures used across Europe and the Americas, and twenty carry Eastern Arabic numerals, the forms used in Arabic-language typography. Case, metal, diameter, height, hands and cut-out construction are identical on both, so the numerals are the only field in which the two differ. This example is one of the seventy-nine.

A record describing this dial only as cut-out does not say which of the two watches it holds, and the twenty Eastern Arabic pieces are the scarcer half of an already small edition.
