The Chronomètre à Résonance in its original configuration, made from 2000 to 2009, with two symmetrical analog display dials. This example comes from the 38 mm Steel Set of 2015, thirty-eight sets of five watches in steel with rose gold movements.

The steel case measures 38 mm and stands 9.1 mm deep, the flattest of the five, on a leather strap. The dial is gold with a bronze patina worked against whitened guilloché silver, and the hands are blued steel. Later Chronomètre à Résonance references replaced the left-hand analog dial with a digital hour display.

The Chronomètre à Résonance debuted in 2000 as the first wristwatch built on resonance, an effect studied by Breguet in pocket watches in the early 1800s and by Antide Janvier in pendulum clocks. François-Paul Journe first attempted it in a pocket watch in 1983 and returned to it fifteen years later. This example is the original configuration, made from 2000 to 2009, with two symmetrical analog display dials.

The steel case measures 38 mm across and 9.1 mm deep, on a leather strap, and is the flattest of the five watches in the set. The dial is gold given a bronze patina and worked against whitened guilloché silver, and the hands are blued steel. The patinated dial is specific to the set.

The watch carries two independent movements under one dial plate, each with its own hands and its own power reserve, reading the same time on two dials. Later references of the model replaced the left-hand analog display with a digital hour indication, which is the quickest way to date a Résonance by sight.

F.P. Journe released the 38 mm Steel Set in 2015 to close out the 38 mm case. Thirty-eight sets were made, each holding a Tourbillon Souverain, a Chronomètre à Résonance, an Octa Automatique, an Octa Calendrier and a Chronomètre Souverain, all in steel with rose gold movements. The twin-analog Résonance ended production in 2009 and the set was released in 2015.

The Chronomètre à Résonance was made in gold and in platinum throughout its own production, so a steel one exists only through this set, and since sets are broken up individual watches circulate separately.
