A meteorite dial is the only material in the Code 11.59 collection that was not made on earth, and the pattern it carries cannot be produced by any process available to a manufacturer. Iron meteorites cool over millions of years at rates measured in degrees per million years, and that impossibly slow cooling allows two nickel-iron alloys to separate into a lattice of interlocking crystal bands. Nothing in a foundry can replicate it, because no industrial process has that much time. The pattern is invisible in the raw slice and only appears once the surface has been cut, polished and etched with acid, which eats the two alloys at different rates and leaves the lattice standing in relief. This reference is a limited edition in black ceramic at 41 mm. Meteorite also has a working problem that stone dials do not. Iron meteorite corrodes, and a slice cut for a dial has to be stabilised and protected or it will rust in the case, so the material demands a treatment step before it can be used at all. That requirement is one of the reasons meteorite dials appear across the industry in small numbers despite the material being available.
The case is black ceramic in the Code 11.59 construction, round when viewed from above and octagonal through the middle section, with hollowed lugs welded to the case band rather than machined as part of it. Executing that architecture in a material roughly five times harder than steel is the manufacturing difficulty behind every ceramic reference in the collection, since ceramic cannot be corrected after machining and the alternating brushed and polished surfaces the design depends on have to be achieved in the tooling. The dial is meteorite with white gold hands and hour markers and a grey inner bezel closing the outer edge. Grey is the correct choice against the material, since a coloured bezel would compete with a surface that already carries its own pattern, and white gold markers read cleanly against a grey-toned field where a warm metal would fight it. The strap is grey rubber-coated with a stainless steel folding clasp. The strap and clasp choices are also worth reading as a set. A grey rubber-coated strap and a steel clasp on a watch containing a tourbillon is a deliberately unprecious combination, and it points the reference towards regular use rather than towards a display case. On a limited edition that is a less common decision than it sounds, since limitation usually pushes a specification in the opposite direction.
The function set is a flying tourbillon with hours and minutes. Flying means the cage is supported from below with no upper bridge crossing it, so the assembly appears unsupported in the dial aperture and nothing passes over it as it turns. That construction is harder than a bridged tourbillon because the whole rotating assembly is cantilevered from one side and must be held rigid while remaining light enough to be driven efficiently. Winding is automatic, which adds a rotor and a winding train to a movement already built around the cage. There is no date and no seconds display. On a meteorite dial that restraint matters more than usual, since an aperture cut into the material would sever the crystal lattice at whatever point it fell and would show a hard edge where the pattern stops. The tourbillon aperture is the exception because it was designed into the dial rather than cut through a finished one, so the material is worked around a known opening rather than being interrupted by a later addition. That distinction is invisible in the finished watch and it is the difference between a dial that reads as whole and one that reads as damaged.
Four references share the 26396 case in the current selection and they are separated entirely by dial material. This is the meteorite version and the only one of the four carrying a stated limitation. The others use natural sodalite in white gold, black onyx and a smoked green enamelled aventurine, so the group runs from a stone with strong veining through a stone with none at all to a manufactured material and finally to this one. Read together they amount to a survey of what a dial can be made from. Three of the four are in black ceramic, which makes the white gold sodalite reference the outlier on case rather than on dial. Reading the four together is also the clearest way to understand what the collection is doing with this case. The mechanism, the size and the architecture are held constant, and the only variable is what the dial is made from, which turns the group into a controlled comparison of materials rather than a range of watches.
The buyer for this reference is buying a material rather than a design, and that is the honest description. Every meteorite dial differs from the next because the lattice runs at a different angle through each slice, so the reference is a small run of individually patterned watches rather than a repeated product. The limitation compounds that. A material that cannot be reproduced, cut in a run that will not be repeated, in a case that will not mark, produces a watch with an unusually clear argument for keeping it. Collectors who arrive here have often looked at meteorite dials elsewhere and found them mounted in conventional cases, and the pairing with a flying tourbillon in ceramic is what separates this one. The ceramic case also protects the proposition in a practical way, since a watch bought for an irreplaceable dial is one an owner would rather not mark, and a case that resists marking removes the main reason such a watch stays in a drawer.
