In Rose Gold with a Silver dial, the Saxonia Moon Phase 384.032 is the warm, classic version of the model A. Lange & Söhne introduced in 2016, pairing its outsize date with a moon phase on a single vertical axis. The Saxonia family has carried Lange's most restrained dial designs since the manufacture's revival collection of 1994, and this watch adds complication without disturbing that calm. It is also offered with a Black dial as the 384.031.

The moon phase sits in the upper section of the small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock, opposite the outsize date at 12, on a Silver dial of solid silver with applied gold baton markers and gold hands. The 40 mm Rose Gold case is 9.8 mm high, the self-winding movement, finished by hand in Glashütte, shows through the sapphire caseback, and an alligator strap with a Rose Gold prong buckle completes the watch.

The Saxonia Moon Phase 384.032 in Rose Gold with a Silver dial was among the launch references of the Saxonia Moon Phase at SIHH 2016, and it represents the model in its most traditional and warmest form. The watch pairs the manufacture's outsize date with a moon phase, and its design places the two displays on a single vertical line: the date beneath 12 o'clock and the moon in the upper portion of the small seconds dial at 6 o'clock. This symmetry allowed Lange to add two complications to the Saxonia dial while preserving the clarity that defines the family. The self-winding movement was the sixteenth Lange movement to incorporate a moon phase, drawing on decades of experience with the display in wristwatches and, earlier, in the pocket watches of the original Glashütte manufacture. In Rose Gold, the combination of gold case, pale Silver dial and deep blue lunar disc has a classic harmony that recalls the long traditions of European watchmaking while remaining completely contemporary in its proportions and finish.

The case measures 40 mm in diameter and 9.8 mm in height, a size that gives the dial space for its two complications while keeping the watch slim enough for a cuff. Polished Rose Gold on the bezel and caseback contrasts with a satin-finished band, following the Saxonia's three-part construction. The dial, crafted from solid silver in a Silver finish, is almost entirely open: applied gold baton markers mark the hours around its edge, and gold hands indicate the time. Beneath 12 o'clock, the outsize date appears in two framed windows with black numerals on white discs. At the bottom of the dial, the small seconds subdial encloses in its upper half an aperture through which the moon phase passes, a disc of solid gold given its intense blue by a patented coating and laser-cut with no fewer than 852 stars. The warm gold of the case and markers, the pale silver of the dial and the deep blue of the moon create a gentle, balanced palette that feels traditional without ever looking dated. An alligator strap with a Rose Gold prong buckle completes the watch in harmony with its case. In bright daylight the silver dial takes on a crisp, almost white clarity, while in softer light its warm tones blend with the Rose Gold to create a gentle, unified appearance.

The movement inside is self-winding, with a central rotor weighted in Platinum that keeps the single mainspring barrel wound during normal wear. When fully wound, it runs for 72 hours. It consists of 325 components and drives the hours, minutes and small seconds, the outsize date and the moon phase. The outsize date follows Lange's patented principle of separate discs for the tens and units, allowing each numeral to be much larger than in a conventional date window, and it can be advanced with a corrector on the case. The moon disc, connected to the hour wheel, turns without pause; Lange states that it departs from the true phase by only one day in 122.6 years as long as the watch keeps running. When the crown is pulled to set the time, a stop-seconds device halts the balance, so the watch can be synchronised with a time signal. The sapphire caseback reveals a German silver plate decorated with Glashütte ribbing, a hand-engraved balance cock and the rotor with its Platinum mass, and like every movement made by Lange, it is assembled twice before it is placed in its case.

The Saxonia belonged to A. Lange & Söhne's first collection of 1994, presented at the Royal Palace in Dresden, and since then it has represented the manufacture's commitment to classical proportion and clarity. As the family grew, Lange added complications with great restraint, from the outsize date to an annual calendar, and the Saxonia Moon Phase of 2016 was one of the most successful examples of that approach. Its launch versions in White Gold and Rose Gold with Silver dials were followed in 2018 by black-dial models, but the original Silver-dialled references remain the most faithful to the Saxonia's traditional spirit. The moon phase has deep roots in Lange's history, and the manufacture has placed it on watches ranging from Lange 1 variants to its perpetual calendars. Within this context, the Rose Gold 384.032 offers the complication in its gentlest form, a watch that looks back to the classical dress watches of the past while benefiting from the reliability and finishing of Lange's contemporary movements. Its enduring appeal owes much to that balance of heritage and practicality.

The 384.032 appeals to collectors who value classical elegance and want a complication that is as beautiful as it is useful. Rose Gold and Silver lend it a warmth that suits formal and evening wear particularly well, while its outsize date and self-winding movement make it practical for daily use. The moon phase, with its blue disc and laser-cut stars, adds a detail that rewards a closer look and keeps the watch connected to the rhythm of the natural world. At 40 mm, it wears comfortably on a wide range of wrists without dominating them. It will interest collectors who want a traditional complicated watch without the complexity of a perpetual calendar, and those who appreciate the harmony of gold, silver and blue. For a collection built around classical watchmaking, it offers a timeless centrepiece; for a single watch, it provides a rare balance of warmth, utility and understated beauty. It is also a watch that rewards patience, its moon changing almost imperceptibly from one day to the next.
