The Saxonia Annual Calendar 331.033E pairs a Rose Gold case with a Grey dial, one of the two 36 mm references A. Lange & Söhne introduced in 2026 to replace the 38.5 mm Saxonia Annual Calendar. It is among the smallest complicated watches in the current Lange catalog, and a redesigned self-winding movement allowed the reduction without adding height: the case stays at 9.8 mm. Where the 38.5 mm predecessor used a micro-rotor, the later movement winds through a full central rotor.

On the Grey dial of solid silver, the outsize date sits at 12 o'clock, day of the week at 9 and month at 3, with the moon phase set above the small seconds at 6. The subdials are recessed, their rings finished with fine azurage, and the Rose Gold baton markers end in small pyramids. The Rose Gold case is worn on an alligator strap with a Rose Gold prong buckle, the movement visible through sapphire.

Rose Gold and a Grey dial give the Saxonia Annual Calendar 331.033E a warmer, more contemporary character than its White Gold sibling. A. Lange & Söhne presented both references at Watches and Wonders 2026, reintroducing its self-winding annual calendar after a pause of several years in a case reduced from 38.5 mm to 36 mm. The complication itself is one of the most useful in watchmaking: it tracks months of 30 and 31 days automatically, so the date moves correctly through eleven months of the year and needs a single manual adjustment at the end of February. Lange combines it with the outsize date that has been its signature since the Lange 1 of 1994, with day and month indications and with a moon phase, all arranged symmetrically on a compact dial. The Grey dial gives the Rose Gold version a slightly technical, modern edge, while the smaller case responds to the growing appetite among collectors for complications in more classical proportions, a direction Lange had already taken with the 34 mm 1815 of 2025.

The Rose Gold case is 36 mm across and 9.8 mm high, polished on the bezel and caseback and satin-finished on the case band. Its compact dimensions make it one of the smaller complicated watches in the current Lange catalogue, and it sits comfortably on slim and medium wrists alike. The Grey dial is made of solid silver, a slate tone that contrasts with the warm metal of the case and gives the Rose Gold markers and hands a soft glow. Lange's outsize date appears at 12 o'clock in its double window, the day of the week sits on the left at 9 o'clock and the month on the right at 3 o'clock, both in recessed subdials finished with fine concentric decoration. At 6 o'clock, the small seconds shares its space with the moon phase, where a blue-coated gold disc scattered with stars recalls the night sky. The Rose Gold baton markers end in small pyramids that reflect light as the watch moves, and slender lancet hands in the same metal complete the dial. An alligator strap and Rose Gold prong buckle finish the watch in a warm, harmonious way.

The movement inside the 331.033E was developed specifically for this generation of the Saxonia Annual Calendar. Self-winding, it uses a central rotor with a Platinum mass that winds in one direction, and it runs for 60 hours when fully wound, a significant increase on the earlier model. Made of 491 components and measuring 5.7 mm in height, it fits within a case no taller than its predecessor. The calendar advances automatically each night and distinguishes between long and short months; only at the end of February does it need a single correction. Adjustments are simple: a pusher at 10 o'clock moves every calendar indication and the moon phase forward together, which is useful after the watch has been set aside, while individual correctors set the date, day, month and moon phase separately. Pulling the crown halts the screw balance, making it easy to start the watch in step with a reference signal. Through the caseback the movement reveals Lange's traditional finishing, with a German silver plate decorated with Glashütte stripes, a swan-neck regulator on the freehand-engraved balance cock and screwed gold chatons.

Lange's annual calendar history began in 2010 with the first Saxonia Annual Calendar, a self-winding watch that combined the complication with the outsize date and the zero-reset seconds. In 2017 the manufacture added the hand-wound 1815 Annual Calendar, which presents the calendar with analog hands in keeping with that family's pocket-watch design. The Saxonia version was later retired, leaving the 1815 as the only annual calendar in the collection until the 2026 revival. The 2026 generation brought a smaller case, a fresh movement with a central rotor and a longer running time, and a redesigned dial with more generous spacing between the displays. The Rose Gold model with its Grey dial is the more contemporary of the two 2026 references, pairing a traditional metal with a modern dial colour. Both belong to the Saxonia family, which since 1994 has represented Lange's most classical designs, and they show how the manufacture continues to refine its practical complications rather than simply making them larger or more elaborate.

The 331.033E suits collectors who want a practical complication with a slightly modern character. Its Grey dial and Rose Gold case create a combination that feels fresh while remaining classical, suitable for everyday wear with casual clothes as well as with a suit. The annual calendar and outsize date make it genuinely useful, and its self-winding movement keeps it ready to wear. At 36 mm, it appeals to collectors who prefer compact watches and to those who value a complicated watch that does not dominate the wrist. It will interest owners of a time-only Saxonia looking for a more capable companion, and collectors who admire Lange's outsize date and want the most practical calendar the manufacture offers in a self-winding watch. For a first Lange with a complication, or an everyday watch within a larger collection, it offers a rare combination of usefulness, discretion and warmth.
