The Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar 345.033E, launched in April 2021, fits a perpetual calendar into the Lange 1 without disturbing its asymmetric face, thanks to a month ring around the edge of the dial. In Rose Gold with a Grey dial, it is the regular-production version of the model, and its calendar displays switch instantly at midnight, needing no correction until 2100. It was the first Lange 1 perpetual calendar without a tourbillon.

The Grey dial of solid silver carries Rose Gold hands and markers, Lange's outsize date, a retrograde day-of-week scale and a leap-year indication, with the month read from the peripheral ring. A moon phase with integrated day/night indicator completes the Lange calendar. The self-winding movement drives it all inside a 41.9 mm Rose Gold case, 12.1 mm high, worn on alligator with a Rose Gold prong buckle.

The Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar 345.033E is the regular-production version of the model with which A. Lange & Söhne brought the perpetual calendar to the Lange 1 without a tourbillon, presented in April 2021 in Rose Gold with a Grey dial of solid silver. Lange had combined the two before, in the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar of 2012, but that watch sat at the summit of the collection. The 2021 model used the self-winding movement of the Lange 1 Daymatic as its base and set a different priority: a full perpetual calendar, read at a glance, inside the asymmetric Lange 1 composition. Its solution is a month ring around the edge of the dial, which leaves the off-centre time display, the outsize date and the small seconds where Lange 1 owners expect them, and every calendar display, the ring included, advances instantly at midnight. It launched alongside a limited White Gold edition of 150 pieces with a dial of solid Rose Gold, and a Platinum version with a Black dial followed in 2023. Of the three, the 345.033E is the one Lange makes without a numbered limit, and its Rose Gold and Grey pairing gives the model its most classic face.

The case is Rose Gold, 41.9 mm in diameter and 12.1 mm thick, larger and taller than the time-only Lange 1 to accommodate the self-winding movement and the calendar mechanism, with recessed correctors set into the case band for the individual calendar displays. The dial is solid silver in a deep, slightly cool Grey, against which the Rose Gold details read with real warmth: applied Rose Gold Roman numerals on the hour and minute circle, Rose Gold hands and a Rose Gold frame around the outsize date. The month ring runs around the periphery, its names arranged in a band outside the main composition, so the calendar adds a frame to the dial rather than crowding its centre. A retrograde hand shows the day of the week along a short arc, a leap-year display records the position in the four-year cycle, and the moon phase appears with its integrated day and night indicator, completing the astronomical side of the dial. Each indication keeps its own clear zone, so a dial carrying this much information still reads first as a Lange 1, with the familiar triangle of time, date and seconds intact. The watch is worn on a red-brown alligator strap with a Rose Gold prong buckle, a warm accompaniment to the Grey dial and the Rose Gold case.

A perpetual calendar must know the length of every month, including February in leap years, and the 345.033E does so mechanically, needing no correction until 2100, when the Gregorian calendar skips a leap year. What sets Lange's version apart is the way it shows the calendar. Every calendar indication jumps instantly at midnight: the outsize date, the day of the week and the month ring itself, which moves a full step at the turn of each month. Advancing a ring of that size in an instant demands considerably more energy than the small discs and hands of a traditional perpetual calendar, and the movement must store that energy and release it at exactly the right moment. The displays can be advanced together or individually with the correctors in the case band, which makes setting the watch after a period at rest straightforward. The moon phase, with its integrated day and night indicator, follows the lunar cycle against a sky that changes from day to night as the hours pass. The self-winding movement has 621 parts, 63 jewels and five screwed gold chatons, runs for 50 hours when fully wound, and is wound by a gold rotor with a Platinum mass. Lange counts it as its 67th manufacture movement.

The perpetual calendar entered the Lange 1 family in 2012 with the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar, a watch that already used the peripheral month ring and instantly switching displays and kept its tourbillon visible only from the movement side. It established that a perpetual calendar could live inside the Lange 1 layout, but it remained a rare piece at the top of the range. For the 2021 model, Lange chose a different route: rather than adapt the tourbillon movement, it built the calendar on the self-winding movement of the Lange 1 Daymatic of 2010, adding almost two hundred components to its 426. The bridges were cut back to reveal part of the going train, so the movement looks distinct from the Daymatic's even though it shares its foundation. The 2021 launch paired the Rose Gold 345.033E with the White Gold 345.056E, whose solid Rose Gold dial was made in 150 pieces, and the Platinum 345.036E with a Black dial joined in 2023. Within the Lange 1 family the model now sits between the time-only and moon-phase watches and the tourbillon perpetual, a complete calendar that still keeps the face Lange introduced in 1994.

The 345.033E appeals to collectors who want a perpetual calendar that reads as clearly as a time-only watch. The month ring, the outsize date and the instantly jumping displays mean that the full calendar is legible in a single glance and never caught halfway between two days, a quality that matters every morning rather than only at the end of February. Because it is self-winding, the calendar stays set as long as the watch is worn regularly, which makes the complication practical rather than ceremonial. In Rose Gold with a Grey dial it is the warmest and most classic of the three Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar references. It will interest owners of a Lange 1 or Lange 1 Moon Phase looking to complete the family with its most comprehensive calendar, and collectors of perpetual calendars who want something other than the subdial layout found on most examples from Geneva and the Vallée de Joux. At 41.9 mm and 12.1 mm it has real presence on the wrist, and through the sapphire caseback its gold rotor and reduced bridges show how much of the movement Lange chose to leave in view.
