The RM 27 series was launched in 2010 with the RM 027 Carbon Tourbillon Limited Edition of 50, the first watch in what would become one of the most defining athlete partnerships in modern luxury watchmaking. Developed in collaboration with Rafael Nadal, the brief was to build a tourbillon that the world's most physically intense professional tennis player could actually wear during competitive matches without affecting his game or damaging the watch. The result was an ultra-lightweight construction weighing approximately 20 grams complete, with the manual-winding tourbillon caliber suspended on a network of cables that absorbed the shock loads of Nadal's swings and serves.
The RM 27-01 followed in 2013 with continued lightness and a structural refinement to the cable suspension system, allowing the tourbillon to operate reliably under the increased shock environment that Nadal's playing style created. The RM 27-02 in 2015 introduced a fully integrated bezel, case middle, and case back construction in Carbon TPT and Quartz TPT, eliminating traditional case construction joints to further reduce weight and increase rigidity.
