Sell Your Patek Philippe Chronograph Watch

The chronograph is one of Patek Philippe's most important complications and one of the deepest categories in the maison's catalog. From the manually wound CH 29-535 PS that powers the 5170 and 5172, to the self-winding CH 28-520 in the Nautilus 5980 and Aquanaut 5968, to the grand complication chronographs that pair the function with perpetual calendars and minute repeaters, Patek's chronograph program spans almost every direction a serious collector might want to explore. Selling one is a different conversation than selling a more conventional Patek, and Wrist Aficionado is built for exactly that nuance. We're one of the most active dealers in the Patek Philippe secondary market, with a buyer list that actively pursues chronograph references in particular. Send us a few details and clear photos and our specialists handle the rest. Whether you own a 5172G, a 5905, a 5968 Aquanaut Chronograph, a 5980 or 5990 Nautilus Chronograph, a 5270 perpetual calendar chronograph, or a vintage 5070 or 5970P, your watch ends up in the right hands.

Why Sellers Choose Wrist Aficionado for Their Patek Philippe Chronograph

Selling a Patek chronograph is rarely a casual transaction. The complication itself adds weight to valuation, the program spans more than a dozen distinct reference families, and condition factors specific to chronographs, including pusher action, reset and zero behavior, and service history, all carry outsized weight. Sellers tend to come our way for a few specific reasons:

  • Buyer Reach Where Patek Chronographs Actually Trade: Active clients across North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, the regions where Patek chronograph demand runs deepest, give your watch immediate, qualified visibility.
  • Reference-Level Knowledge Across the Chronograph Catalog: Our team works with the full Patek chronograph lineup, from the vintage 5070 family and the 5170 Calatrava-cased chronograph through the 5172, 5930 World Time Chronograph, 5524 Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Chronograph, 5905 and 5960 annual calendar chronographs, the 5968 Aquanaut Chronograph, the 5980 and 5990 Nautilus chronographs, and the perpetual calendar chronograph 5270, 5271, 5204, and 5970 families.
  • Movement-Aware Authentication: Patek chronograph calibers, including CH 29-535 PS, CH 28-520, CHR 27-525 PS, and the grand complication CH R 27-525, each carry distinct authentic signatures. Our specialists understand what an original Patek chronograph movement looks like, how the pushers should feel, and what service history affects valuation.
  • Function-Aware Inspection: A chronograph's value depends on a clean-running mechanism. Our team verifies pusher feel, reset and zero behavior, flyback function where applicable, and split-seconds isolation on rattrapante references.
  • Fully Insured Logistics: Every transaction is protected by fully insured shipping, secure handling, and complete documentation. Non-negotiable for pieces of this caliber.
  • Honest, Direct Communication: No surprise deductions, no fine print buried in the offer, no pressure tactics. Just clear, straightforward conversation throughout.
  • Multiple Paths to Sell: Choose between an outright purchase or consignment through our global network, whichever better fits the result you want.
  • Hands-On Inspection by Patek Specialists: Each chronograph is personally evaluated by our team, with attention to case integrity, dial originality, movement signatures, chronograph function, certificate of origin, and any service or extract paperwork from the maison.

About Patek Philippe Chronograph Watches

The chronograph has been part of Patek Philippe's vocabulary almost from the start. The maison produced its first chronograph wristwatch in 1923, and the reference 130, 530, and the iconic 1463 established Patek as a leading maker of complicated chronograph wristwatches through the mid-20th century. The 1518 perpetual calendar chronograph, released in 1941, was the first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph in horological history, and the lineage that followed, including the 2499, 3970, and 5970, built one of the most respected complicated chronograph traditions in modern watchmaking.

For most of its history, Patek built its chronographs on movements supplied by Lemania and Nouvelle Lemania, modified extensively in-house. That changed in 2005 when the maison introduced the CHR 27-525 PS split-seconds chronograph caliber, followed in 2009 by the CH 29-535 PS, Patek's first manually wound time-only chronograph caliber in over fifty years of in-house production. The CH 28-520 self-winding chronograph caliber arrived shortly after, powering the modern Nautilus 5980 and the Aquanaut 5968. Together these calibers gave Patek a fully integrated chronograph movement program.

The contemporary chronograph catalog spans nearly every direction a collector might want to explore. The Calatrava-cased 5170 and 5172 are time-only chronographs in the maison's traditional dress format. The 5905 and 5960 add annual calendar functionality, and the 5961 brings it in a slightly different case format. The 5924 and 5930 combine the chronograph with a Travel Time complication, and the 5935 brings the same combination to a smaller stainless steel case. The 5968 Aquanaut Chronograph and the 5980 and 5990 Nautilus chronographs anchor the sport-cased side of the program. The grand complications, including the 5270 and 5271 perpetual calendar chronographs, the 5204 perpetual calendar split-seconds chronograph, the 5370 platinum split-seconds chronograph, the 5308 quadruple complication, and the 5208 minute repeater perpetual calendar chronograph, sit at the very top of the catalog.

What makes the Patek chronograph program distinctive on the secondary market is the breadth of references combined with the brand's reputation in the complication. Individual references trade very differently from one another, condition and service history matter enormously, and the buyer you put your watch in front of carries real weight in what you ultimately walk away with.
